Fox Valley Victorian Ladies Society

I am trying to start a new group in the Fox Valley for ladies who are like minded in their interest in the Victorian Era. The group will be called The Fox Valley Victorian Ladies Society and I have started a Facebook page for informational purposes. This can be found at:

Please check out the group and join or pass it along to a friend who may be interested. Thank you.

Joining the DAR

I have exciting news!! I heard yesterday that I have been verified for the DAR, which means that the genealogy has been verified. Now I'm just waiting for the powers that be of the DAR have their February meeting to "approve" my application. I am getting ready to send an application on behalf of my mother for another ancestor and an additional application for me on a third ancestor. I have one in the hopper, which I need to do some copying and compiling of documents etc. There are also a few other ancestors that I am going to have to try and prove from scratch. In other words, no one has had these ancestors approved yet. That might be a little more challenging. It makes me feel like I have deep roots in this country, and I am proud of that.

Why your family history is important in your life...

Family History: To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain perpetually a child. For what is the worth of a human life unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history? Marcus Tullius Cicero

As a child, I knew my mother was very interested in family history, but did not understand it's importance until recently. I'm sure that you've heard people say that they "wished they hadn't waited until it was too late to ask a family member questions". I'd like to tell you to ask today, or set up a time where you can sit down and "interview" a family member.

I will be offering you interview questions and suggestions to collect information and why it is important along the way.

Kindest Regards,
Laurel

New Year, New Day

I've never done this before and so it will be on a long list of firsts for the year....some good and some bad, I'm sure. Already had to go to batteries plus and get a new battery for my laptop @$109!!. Oh well, it seems to be working. Need to get a few things cleaned up and then hopefully work on some cards. I have a few ideas for Valentines for the store. Looks a little dark and dreary out there this morning. Make it a good day, everyone.
